GENERAL INFORMAION

Here, you will find useful tips for your practical training

Practical training is the basis for a future career. Successful completion of the internship enriches your resume and portfolio, and the connections you gain during the internship help you find your dream job. The importance of practice is often underestimated, but it is a significant contribution to a successful career start.

HOW TO PREPARE PROPERLY?

  • Plan ahead

Apply for an internship no later than one month before it begins. This is especially important if the company you are going to practice with is not located in St. Petersburg. The process of approving and signing documents may take time.

  • Choose your practice location carefully

If you have chosen a place of practice on your own, be sure to consult with your supervisor. The company must be approved by the curator of the internship from ITMO University. The supervisor checks whether the company corresponds to your field of study, and whether the number of hours is suitable for crediting the internship.

  • Coordinate all the documents

After agreeing on the internship location with the supervisor, one week before the start of the internship, you must provide the full package of documents to the Student Services Office (after creating a ticket in helpdesk).

  • Ask for help

If for any reason you did not have time to arrange an internship yourself, contact the curator at the faculty or the Student Services Office at a special time (Monday at 14:00-18:00) for consultations with an expert in practice.

ROLES OF PRACTICE PARTICIPANTS

  • The supervisor of the internship at the faculty/ institute oversees all internship processes: assigns internships, interacts with organizations, and coordinates documents with the educational program.

  • The head of the ITMO internship coordinates the individual internship assignment, accepts the report and evaluates the results. It is assigned to each student from among the members of the teaching staff. Draws up a work schedule (plan) of the internship, develops an individual assignment, monitors, and provides methodological assistance during the internship.

  • The head of an internship in a specialized organization (company) provides a workplace in the company for the duration of the internship, provides consulting and methodological assistance, and writes feedback on the student's performance during the internship.

  • The Department of Educational Activities is where the verification, final approval and signing of practice documents takes place: referral, contract and application.

  • Student Services Office — reception and issuance of documents for the company.
