A foreign language is included in the compulsory curriculum of ITMO University. We have developed a special program designed for three years so that students can effectively and efficiently study a foreign language.

The main foreign language of study at ITMO is English. Foreign students study Russian.

First, you’ll need to take a test to identify your level of proficiency in English according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). Depending on the results of the test, the training is carried out according to seven educational trajectories: A1, A2, В1.1, В1.2,В2,С1,С+

Each undergraduate student has 4 hours of foreign language in the schedule per week.

In the 1st and 2nd year, students study the discipline "Foreign language" (all levels).

In the 3rd year, students study the disciplines "Foreign language" and "Foreign language for specific purposes".

Apart from the main foreign language, students can also opt to study other languages.

Moreover, there are speaking clubs in Russian, English, German, French and Italian and language tests for students wishing to go on exchange abroad. 

How to sign up for the course

The choice of disciplines is organized on the portal my.itmo.ru with authorization by the students' ISU account. Students can choose groups of the appropriate level. The level is determined by entrance testing (first year) or by the results of the previous year of study.
