Module description |
A foreign language is a part of the compulsory curriculum at ITMO University. We have developed a special 3-year program to make the process of learning foreign languages engaging and efficient. The main foreign language at ITMO is English. Foreign students study Russian. Before your classes start, you’ll need to take a test to identify your level of proficiency in English (or Russian for foreign students) according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). Depending on the results of the test, you will be advised to the following tracks: А1, А2, В1.1, В1.2, В2, С1+ Each undergraduate student has 4 hours of foreign language per week. All first-year students learn English (Levels A1-C1). Second- and third-year students continue to study English and can also choose another foreign language (whose English level B2 and above). In the 3rd year, students can also choose the course "Foreign language for specific purposes" (levels B2-C1+). From the 2nd year, students can add another foreign language as a university-wide optional course to their schedule. Fourth-year students can optionally study the course "Foreign Language for specific purposes". There are extracurricular activities as well: speaking clubs in Russian, English, German, French, Spanish and Italian, and other events. We also carry the language tests for students wishing to go on exchange abroad. |
